Research & Technology

A cure for cancer? Or just your hay fever? Either way, research in medicine is the key to development of new treatments, new medications, and even cures.

Our physicians are committed to bringing our patients the highest quality of care, including the latest, most up-to-date therapies available anywhere. We think it’s important to be on the cutting edge; that’s why since 1986 the South Bend Clinic has been extensively involved in conducting clinical research studies. We have investigated new medications not yet approved, as well as better ways to use drugs already available, for diseases such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, infections, women’s health, and many others, including most types of cancer.

Through The South Bend Clinic Center for Research, our physicians have participated in over 200 different trials, and studied nearly 100 brand new medications. As a result of our efforts, many now have been approved and are now available to treat not just our patients, but also others all across the country. Our efforts have been nationally recognized; in fact, our results have been published in the most prestigious medical journals in the world, including the New England Journal of Medicine.

Our physicians are not only innovators, they are also inventors. In orthopedics, for example, Dr. Ron Clark has over 50 patents for new devices used in joint surgery, including a highly regarded partial knee replacement.

The South Bend Clinic Center for Research is under the leadership of James Harris III, M.D., Director, and Rudy Navari, M.D., Ph. D., Co-Director, also Dean of the Indiana School of Medicine on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

So whether you’re looking for more allergy relief or a cure for cancer, you can count of The South Bend Clinic to offer you not only the newest treatments available, but even some treatments that are not available anywhere else. Why? Because you, our patients, are our #1 priority, and you deserve the best.

We are looking for patients interested in participating in clinical research trials. If eligible, you will receive an evaluation and exam by one of our physicians, plus medication, all at no cost to you. We are currently doing studies in the following clinical areas and diseases; they are listed along with the physician researcher in charge of the study. If interested, contact Lucy at 574-204-6192 or lwright@southbendclinic.com.
