If you’ve driven by our Eddy Street facility, you’ve noticed that we’re in the middle of a major expansion. The truth is, we’re growing throughout the South Bend area … at our main campus on Eddy Street, on Portage Avenue, and in Granger, and it’s very exciting.

We could think of these latest projects in very “concrete” terms. But the almost $40 million investment we’re making in these neighborhoods is so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about our mission “to partner with our patients in providing great healthcare, to improve the health status of our patients and the community.” It’s an investment in the future. With our new facilities and the creation of more than 150 jobs, we will be adding new physicians and services — so you can continue to receive the highest quality care possible as close to home as possible.

July 2007
The first phase or our most aggressive expansion ever, a parking garage on the west side of the main campus, will be completed by December 2007. The parking garage is needed for patients and caregivers, current and future. The entire project, with a scheduled completion date of May 2009, will more than double the size of the Clinic, making way for new physicians and expanded services, including a new ambulatory surgery center.

A slight snag in the excavation process occurred when crews hit groundwater. However, that has been addressed, and construction is proceeding.

The South Bend Clinic has had an office in Granger since 1987. Our first physician office on State Road 23, originally a family clinic, now offers obstetrics/gynecology and urology services. The family practice moved to our second Granger location on Fir Road across from St. Pius X Church in 1996. Because of a tremendously growing patient base, we have added two additional clinics on the Fir Rd. site. More than 13,200 square feet will be dedicated to pediatric services and internal medicine. The new facilities employ more than 100 people.

Located on the southeast corner of Portage Avenue and Brick Road, the Portage clinic is our first in the northwest part of the city. It serves residents on the city’s northwest side, as well as a substantial percentage of patients who come from southwestern Michigan. The 13,500-square-foot facility is staffed by seven physicians. All physicians from the South Bend Clinic Skyway office have relocated to the new Portage office.
