Cameron Gongwer, M.D.

Cameron Gongwer, M.D., graduated from Wabash College and earned his medical degree and master’s in biochemistry from Indiana University School of Medicine.  He is board certified in family medicine and completed his residency at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

Dr. Gongwer has special interests in tropical medicine, traveler’s health, and immigrant healthcare.  He obtained a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians after studying at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also earned a certificate of knowledge in Tropical Medicine and Traveler’s Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. 

His interest in medical missions led him and his family to serve in Ghana, West Africa for 14 years, where he helped to develop the Ankaase Methodist Hospital.  While there, he also studied at the University of Ghana and obtained a master’s degree in public health.  He continues to regularly support health, education, and mission outreach activities in Ghana.

Dr. Gongwer is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He is a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. 

In his spare time he enjoys travel, history, reading, music, hiking and basketball.

Dr. Gongwer practices at The South Bend Clinic’s Portage Campus.
