Daniel Brier, M.D., graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, and went on to earn his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was also the coordinator of a children’s rheumatology clinic. Dr. Brier was also assigned as the ship’s doctor for the USS Newport.
Following his military commitment, Dr. Brier returned to the Midwest to practice pediatrics. During his time in South Bend, he developed close relationships with the pediatric rheumatologists at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis and helped to coordinate care for some of their patients in the South Bend area. As a partner in the South Bend Clinic, Dr. Brier has been involved in the organization’s leadership by serving as Pediatric Department chairman, chairman of the Medical Informatics Committee, and being a member of the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Brier grew up in Indianapolis, with parents who were microbiologists at Eli Lilly and Company. He was exposed to a science-rich environment early on, and so it was not surprising that he eventually majored in biology at Wabash College and later went on to study medicine.
