Javier Galán, M.D., M.P.H graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree. He completed medical school at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina and his residency at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.
He was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and speaks both English and Spanish. His interest in pediatrics was sparked by the great pediatricians and mentors he had growing up. This interest deepened as he came to understand that caring for children also involves caring for their families and communities. He has a special interest in minority and underserved health. He has pursued volunteer work, research, and immersion trips throughout his higher education to better understand health disparities and contribute to improving minority health. He also pursued a master’s degree in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to learn how research and programs can improve community health.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and son, cooking (and trying new foods!), hiking and camping to take in the outdoors, watching and playing basketball, traveling, and cheering on Notre Dame. He is excited to serve the children and families of the greater South Bend community!
