Mikael Howard, M.D. is a Board Certified Pediatrician working at The South Bend Clinic Granger campus. Dr. Howard graduated summa cum laude from Tuskegee University in Alabama in 2004 earning her Bachelor degree. She went to Tulane University in New Orleans to complete a Masters in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2005. Mikael was drawn to this unique Masters program because it was designed especially for students pursuing postgraduate degrees in Medicine and other fields. It was at Tulane, that Mikael solidified her desire to enter medicine while completing service learning at local hospitals and gaining early exposure to medical school courses like Gross Anatomy and Neuroscience. Mikael attended Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL for medical school and she graduated in 2010. She completed her Pediatric residency at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois in 2013.
Mikael Howard, M.D. knew very early on that she wanted to be a doctor. She wrote a “What I want to be” letter at the age of seven years old that is currently hanging in one of her exam rooms. In the letter, she stated, “I want to be a medical doctor because I can operate on many people…and when my mother is sick, I can help her feel better…I’d do whatever I can to help the pasion [patient].” Apparently, Mikael believed she would become a surgeon or perhaps that all doctors performed surgery; however, Pediatrics is what ultimately grabbed her heart many years later while on her medical school rotations.
Mikael is married with four children (Destiny, Faith, Hope, and Isaiah). She had three of her children during her Pediatric Residency, which is a decision that she admits was a major challenge. However, the practical knowledge she has gained that she is now able to share with her parents is priceless. She is humbled by the ability to provide excellent care to a diverse population of children and she is currently accepting new patients into her practice.
