My name is Bar­bara Stitt, FNP. I have been a nurse for 40 years — since 1983! I am mar­ried and have two sons and a grand­child. I have lived in Michi­gan my whole life. I tru­ly am pas­sion­ate about car­ing for the whole patient and pro­vid­ing com­pre­hen­sive care for them.

I have been a fam­i­ly nurse prac­ti­tion­er for 23 years and with The South Bend Clin­ic since 2006. I have expe­ri­ence in fam­i­ly care, urgent care, and admin­is­tra­tion. I have helped in dif­fer­ent spe­cial­ty areas at the South Bend Clin­ic, includ­ing der­ma­tol­ogy, ear, nose, and throat, and pre-sur­gi­cal clearance. 

My phi­los­o­phy is to ​“care for every­one and treat oth­ers how you want to be treated.”

I enjoy work­ing out­side and inside of the home, read­ing, crafting/​sewing, trav­el­ing, being with my friends and fam­i­ly, includ­ing our dogs, and the four sea­sons of the year and what each sea­son provides.

"It was a Friday morning, I was unable to make it Into the office but increasing allergy symptoms required that I talk to my allergist. My doctor was not available. However, the responsiveness of all involved was amazing and saved me from a situation where I'd have to use my epi pen and an afternoon in a hospital emergency room. The kind office person who answered my call patiently listened to my description of what was happening and used other great communication skills (including repeating back what she heard and seeing if she got it correct as she kept me on the line, etc.,) while she sought out whether NP Stitt would be available for a non-scheduled virtual appointment. The quick appointment time indicated they understood the progression of my symptoms and urgency of my need. The appointment link to the call was easy. Once on the call, the intake nurse was thorough yet expedient with her questions. NP Stitt was just excellent. She listened, she sought clarification, reviewed my recent medical records and office visits with this same issue, readily grasped the urgency and preventative measures I was seeking. She clearly had extensive knowledge of my condition, shared new educational info with me, and then devised a plan of action which included a new prescription and higher dosing of my regular medicines, as well as, instructions on how much Benadryl I could safely use to bridge the gap and slow or provide symptom relief until all the medicines would start working. She even gave me parting advice managing my condition during the upcoming heat wave. The entire experience far exceeded my expectations and I am so grateful open appointments like this are available in an allergy office. Importantly, the demeanor, professionalism, seamless virtual appointment, and excellent medical treatment was completely stress-free! (Stress can aggravate my allergy symptoms). "
